Cell Division

I. The Cell Cycle - The Preparation for Cell Division by Somatic cells. - Non Gametes. 5 phases:
           A. G1 (Growth #1) - Longest. Right after division is complete. When the cell grows (100%). Normal cell activities happen here.
           B. S (Synthesis of DNA) - DNA replicates. In humans DNA strands go from 46 to 92.
           C. G2 (Growth #2) - Organelle # doubles. DNA is checked for errors and, if needed, repaired.
           D. M (Mitosis) - Where the nuclear material divides (DNA). 4 Stages:
                            1. Prophase - Chromosomes appear and they spend out in the cell.
                            2. Metaphase -                  "                  Move to the equator and line up.
                            3. Anaphase -                    "                  Are "pulled apart" and move toward the poles.
                            4. Telaphase -                    "                  Reach the poles.
            E. C (Cytokinesis) - The division of the cell int 2, genetically identical daughter cells. Not mutually exclusive of Telaphase.

Homologues - 2 strands of DNA with the same genes, but not, necessarily, the same alleles.
Chromatids - 2 pieces of DNA that are exactly alike (before crossing over).
